WHAT PATIENTS ARE SAYING

Dr. Srinivasa listened, let me cry and answered all my questions. Within minutes, I was scheduled for a mammogram and ultrasound the following week.

— Emma, 28

You shouldn't be fighting a disease or a potential diagnosis and also fighting with scheduling.

— Celia, 46

I just assumed waiting was just the way it was... I didn’t know there was another way.

— Danielle, 51

Knowing how much stress there was during those times... this is peace of mind.

— Alana, 37

They'll take care of you and hold your hand the whole way.

— Vivian, 63

I felt like they looked at me as a person, not as just another film...

— Kira, 25

This is how it should be done... today, that wait between the imaging and the biopsy can feel like an eternity.

why defiant

We guide you from anxiety to answers in days, not months

Defiant was co-founded by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the world’s leading cancer centers, because they believe that all patients deserve timely access to expert diagnosis.

The average breast cancer diagnosis takes 100 days from start to finish. You shouldn't have to wait weeks for a PCP or multiple imaging appointments, leaving you alone and without answers.

Defiant is powered by Dana-Farber’s best practices and clinical protocols to optimize the diagnostic process for faster results.

We guide you step-by-step:

FAQS

Answers to commonly-asked questions

Who is this service for?

Our Accelerated Diagnosis service is a new approach to cancer diagnosis. We help people who have symptoms or abnormal screening results for breast cancer get clear answers faster, through high-quality, expedited diagnostic services, with the support you need.

How soon can I be seen?

We offer same-day or next-day virtual appointments. No waiting weeks just to get started.

Where does Defiant offer its services?

Defiant currently offers services in Massachusetts, with other locations coming soon.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with our doctors.

Does Defiant work with my current doctor?

Yes, Defiant can work with your current primary care doctor or other specialists (such as a gynecologist) to help coordinate your care throughout the process. If you don’t have a primary care doctor, we can still help you.

Where will I go for imaging?

We refer to high-quality imaging centers near you. We’ll handle scheduling and coordination.

How quickly can I get imaging done?

We expedite your imaging—typically within days, not weeks. We'll coordinate everything, including getting your prior images and records if you have any, and help cut through the delays.

In which cases will I not be able to get a biopsy on the same day as my imaging?

In some cases, an ultrasound-guided biopsy can be offered to Defiant Health patients on the same day as the diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. However, there are certain situations where it may not be clinically appropriate to do the biopsy on the same day or certain partners that cannot offer same-day biopsy. Defiant works very closely with our radiology partners to minimize the time it takes to schedule the biopsy so that you don’t have to wait for weeks to get answers.

What happens if cancer is found or suspected?

We’ll help you take the next steps quickly: a jump-start on additional testing based on Dana-Farber Cancer Institute protocols, referrals to top oncologists based on your specific diagnosis and needs, and a clear plan for how to prepare for treatment.

Will you help me understand my diagnosis and options?

Absolutely. We’ll break everything down in plain language, and we’re available to answer questions every step of the way.

Can you help me get into a top cancer center?

Yes. We can help you understand how to make the decisions about where to seek care, and guide you through your options. And we will take care of the referral.

How do Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Defiant collaborate?

Dana-Farber partnered in founding Defiant because Dana-Farber believes that all patients deserve timely access to expert diagnosis. Dana-Farber powers Defiant through access to best practices and clinical protocols that inform Defiant’s diagnostic process.

Can I use insurance with Defiant?

All imaging and labs ordered by your Defiant Health clinician will be billed directly to your insurance by our partners.

Defiant Health is unable to offer some services to HMO health plans. If you’re unsure whether your insurance plan is accepted, reach out to us at support@defianthealth.com.

What if I don’t have insurance?

We work with self-pay patients and can help find the most cost-effective options for imaging and follow-up care, which will be out-of-pocket and in addition to the Defiant Health fee.

Can I pay for Defiant's services using FSA or HSA dollars?

Yes, the diagnostic service offered by Defiant Health is considered an eligible medical expense that can be paid for using FSA and HSA dollars.

Is imaging or testing included in the $199 fee?

No. Imaging and testing are billed separately, usually through your insurance. We work with your providers to make sure you’re only getting what’s needed—and that it's as seamless as possible.
